Obituary For John Sims,Jr

The Sims Family is sad to announce the passing of a loved one.

John Sims, Jr. was born on January 6, 1947 to the union of Mrs. Annie Dell Sims and the late Mr. John D. Sims in Oakfield, GA. He was educated in the Worth County school system in Sylvester, GA. Having accepted Christ at an early age, he became a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church. During the early years of his life, John was employed with the National Linen Service and Lykes Brothers Packing Company. As time progressed, he maintained employment with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for many years until the closure of the facility. His lifelong love of cars was reflected in his hobby of auto repair. His passion for this field inspired him to pursue certification in Autobody/Collision and Repair Technology at Albany Technical College. This achievement was followed by employment with the Worth County Courthouse in Sylvester, GA. John, Jr. as he was affectionately called was an easygoing, lovable person who always managed to maintain a positive attitude toward life. During the course of his journey, he exhibited for his family and others a valuable life lesson: “For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” ~Phillipians 4:11. He will be deeply missed and will always hold a very special place in our hearts. John Sims, Jr. departed this life on October 15, 2019 at Phoebe Putney surrounded by his beloved sons. In addition to his father, Deacon John D. Sims, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Sims. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories a loving and devoted mother, Annie Dell Sims, four sons: Derrell (Carolyn) Mosely of Albany, GA; Stacy Sims of Atlanta, GA; Kasey Sims and Courtney (Bridgche) Sims; a devoted ex-wife, Betty Sims, all of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, one great grandchild, six brothers and sisters: Rev. Tiller (Diann) Sims; David (Vernell) Sims, all of Oakfield, GA; Willie (Coretta) Sims of Columbia, SC; Verdis Sims of Oakfield, GA; Helen (Dale) Jones of Albany, GA; Annie Ruth (Reginald) Hardeman of Cordele, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.
